Every year I find myself in a different place for the Holidays. It is kind of a fun game to play. Where will I be this year, who am I sharing the day with and what adventure are we getting ourselves into?
Today, I find myself in Yellow Springs, OH with my friends Austin and Mel Holmes. Mel the newly appointed innkeeper for Arthur Morgan House Bed and Breakfast. Obviously, spending the day with the Holmes was already a win but the prospect of helping Mel serve the B&B guests brought a flood of childhood memories and excitement to mind.
Not only were my grandparents antique dealers, they also owned a B&B that I helped run as a young teen. The 1800’s B&B was nestled in a small village right on the Ohio River. Waking up early mornings to cook with my grandmother for the guests, meeting interesting people from all walks of life and even making the beds (which can be intense) were my favorite parts.
Waking up early this morning to assist Mel with breakfast, the guests bustling around with their coffee in hand and bonding time over cooking and cleaning with Mel made my day. This might sound silly but serving others gives me joy. So for this experience today, I am thankful. Happy Thanksgiving.
